Results Day 2022!

Humphry Davy School 2 Jul 2026 Students travelled to Gwithian Beach to compete in the Cornwall School Games surfing finals. The weather conditions were less than ideal, but as any Cornish surfer will tell you, a bit of grey weather is all part of the sport! It certainly didn't stop our team, who came away with some incredible results, making the finals in every division. There were outstanding performances throughout, with our young surfers bringing home 1st, 2nd and 3rd place medals across the various heats. It was a fantastic day full of grit, determination and some brilliant surfing. Well done to everyone involved!

Humphry Davy School 29 Jun 2026 What a day!! Mazey Day is one of our favourite days of the year – the atmosphere, the creativity, the colour and the community spirit. We love being right at the heart of it all! This year's Golowan Festival theme was 'Forever Flying High', and we were so excited to present our response: a sculpture of the Greek mythological creature Pegasus - and boy, did he fly high! Flapping his majestic wings above the crowded streets to the tune of Coldplay's 'A Sky Full of Stars', performed by our accompanying marching band, he soaked up the comments of admiration, enjoyed the sunshine on his back, danced along with the crowds and certainly turned heads! In between parades, our music students also gave some fantastic performances on our stage next to the Humphry Davy Statue. It was wonderful to watch their confidence shine as they performed to the crowds. It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase their talents and perform the pieces they have been working so hard on all year. Penzance was buzzing; a brilliant day brimming with community pride. Thank you to the organisers for putting on another fantastic festival and a huge thank you also to our amazing HDS community. Humphry Davy School 27 Jun 2026 Who saw us in the first parade?! Mazey is in full swing, and we are having such a fantastic day so far! We were thrilled to showcase our impressive Pegasus to you all – a fitting representation of this year's theme, 'Forever Flying High'. If you missed us, be sure to catch us in the 3pm parade!

Humphry Davy School 27 Jun 2026 The lead-up to Mazey Day is always so much fun at HDS! Students and staff have been very busy creating our wonderful withy sculpture of Pegasus. In Greek mythology, Pegasus was not born flying; he rose from the earth before lifting into the sky. Wherever Pegasus touched the ground, fresh springs appeared – places of learning, renewal and inspiration. Our sculpture uses this origin story to represent how potential can rise when it is nurtured and supported by those around it. The perfect story for our school! Humphry Davy School 25 Jun 2026 Impact Choir Win Gold at prestigious UK Schools Music Festival! On a cold late February evening in the gym Impact choir and the music staff gathered to record what was to be their gold winning entry of the Joni Mitchel song 'Both Sides Now'. After a suspenseful two month wait the judges awarded Miss Kleiman and the Choir with fancy certificates and a lovely gold trophy to add to the departments collection. Judges comments included: "Your tuning was spot on...there were excellent variations of dynamics... you sang from the heart,well done".

Humphry Davy School 24 Jun 2026 We said farewell to the awesome Class of 2026 on Thursday! It was a lovely morning filled with laughter, shirt signing and a leavers’ assembly packed with memories. A video showcasing their time at HDS was compiled and beautifully captured their experiences; from concerts and trips to so much more. It was a wonderful celebration of their time here. A guard of honour, formed by our Year 7s, rounded off the morning in perfect HDS fashion. We are so proud of all of you and wish you every success and happiness in the future.

Humphry Davy School 23 Jun 2026 Last week, students performed in our annual Summer Music Concert in the beautiful surroundings of Penlee Park Outdoor Theatre. The concert was a wonderful celebration of music and dance, showcasing many different styles and genres. Highlights included performances from the new ‘School of Rock’ club, the KS3 Saxophone and Trombone Project, Sonic Uke, Jazz Band and our award-winning Impact Choir. The evening concluded with a truly spectacular performance from the Scholars Soul Band, which had everyone singing and dancing! Congratulations to everyone who took part. It was a fantastic evening.

Humphry Davy School 19 Jun 2026 Six Year 10 students embarked on the sailing adventure of a lifetime last week! Working with the Rona Sailing Project, they spent a week on board the 65ft sail training yacht, The Merrilyn. Starting their journey on the River Hamble, near Southampton, they travelled a total of 160 miles during the week. After the first night at anchor (where the students were on a rota to stay up and make sure the anchor didn't drag!), they embarked on a very challenging day's sailing from the Solent towards Weymouth. With the weather against them and some people still finding their sea legs, the Skipper made the decision to shorten the journey and they ended up in Poole instead. The following days were much kinder. Sea legs were found and a great breeze made the sailing very exciting! The crew were able to visit Portsmouth and Cowes along the way, where they saw some impressive ships, making their 65ft yacht look like a tiny rowing boat! Students learnt a variety of skills throughout their trip. From learning the names of each sail to helping with cooking and cleaning, they experienced everything needed to keep the boat running successfully and shipshape. What a fantastic experience for our students, and one they are sure never to forget! Well done to everyone for showing bravery, resilience and for bringing the laughter!

Humphry Davy School 16 Jun 2026 Students took part in the Cornwall School Games Athletics event at a very wet Carn Brea! All our students competed brilliantly and were fantastic throughout the day. There were some standout performances in individual races, with a special mention to our Year 7 team, who finished in first place overall out of the eight schools competing. Well done everyone, you were amazing in such challenging conditions!

Humphry Davy School 9 Jun 2026 A group of student students enjoyed a fantastic day at the Royal Cornwall Show on Friday 5th June. Throughout the day, students fully immersed themselves in all that the show had to offer, from thrilling horse show jumping displays to impressive agricultural machinery and everything in between. The trip provided a wonderful opportunity to experience one of Cornwall’s most celebrated events, showcasing the very best of rural life, agriculture and local culture. Thankfully, the weather was kind to us, with more sunshine than showers, making for a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable day for all involved.

Humphry Davy School 8 Jun 2026 We would like to say a big thank you to the Year 8 student who brought in his great-grandfather’s gas mask for us to see. Issued in 1937 and used during World War II, it was fascinating to see such an interesting artefact. It gave students a real connection to the past and helped bring our learning to life. Thank you!

Humphry Davy School 5 Jun 2026 Our Year 10 Catering students are currently developing their fresh pasta making skills, learning how to use pasta machines and create traditional Corteccia-shaped pasta. Their pasta has been paired with a delicious Cacio e Pepe sauce and this week they took their skills a step further by incorporating fresh herbs into the flour before making the pasta. The results were truly bellissimo!

Humphry Davy School 20 May 2026 Students achieved outstanding success at the final round of the Mock Trial competitions on Saturday, where they competed against strong opponents from secondary schools across the South West. Our team took part in two sessions during the day, acting as the defence in the first case and the prosecution in the second. The students represented the school brilliantly, conducting themselves with maturity, politeness and determination throughout the competition. Their persuasive performances and teamwork led to success in both rounds, resulting in HDS being crowned overall winners of the South West region! What an incredible achievement! The day was one to remember and everyone involved should be extremely proud of themselves. Congratulations!
