Duke of Edinburgh's Award
The DofE was designed to challenge young people between the ages of 14 - 24 to attain standards of achievement and endeavour in a wide variety of active interests – to serve their communities, experience adventure and to develop and learn outside the classroom.
Here at DofE HDS we believe in young people, in their innate value and infinite potential. We help young people build life-long belief in themselves, supporting them to take on their own challenges, follow their passions, and discover talents they never knew they had.
Year 9 and Year 10 DofE Enrolling now!
We are running Year 9 Bronze and Year 10 Silver awards this year.

HDS music students were treated to an incredible performance from the Prussia Cove String Quartet yesterday. It was very inspiring - particularly for our GCSE composers who witnessed violins being played with thimbles, and instruments simulating the sound of a helicopter!
Thank you for visiting, and we look forward to welcoming you back in the near future!

With a passion for military police, Aaron studied the perfect course at Penwith College to secure his dream career. 🙌
From a young age, Aaron always knew he wanted a career in the police, but it’s mainly through the Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Uniformed Protective Services that he has been able to fine-tune where he wanted to specialise in.
Aaron, who previously attended Humphry Davy School, talked about his experience in education: “I think all throughout my education I’ve had a good idea of what I want to do and have been persistent with the police route for ages.”
The Protective Services course has been a great eye opener for Aaron, filled with exciting expeditions, inspiring guest speakers and valuable trips to local employers. The course allows students to step outside of their comfort zone, meet new people and experience personal growth. Students can overcome personal challenges and see improvements with their confidence, health and mindset. Having former public service professionals as the course lecturers brings a wealth of experience to the course, greatly benefiting the students and their progression after College.
Aaron said: “The trips were very interesting, particularly the trip we took to HMS Raleigh. We got to see around the navy base and what they do up there.”
Many former Public Services students return to the College to speak with current students about their careers and the path they took to achieve their positions. Aaron found these guest speakers particularly inspiring, as they provided valuable insights to the essential skills and career routes. This experience has solidified Aaron’s aspirations to join the RAF Police with the aim to transition to the civilian police force after a number of years.
For students aspiring to follow a similar career path, Aaron highly recommends this course as the optimal choice.
Aaron also said: “Going from a secondary school to a college can be a big change because there are loads more people. But you’ve got to meet new people, get out of your comfort zone and you can make good friends here at Penwith College.”

Today we were treated to an amazing Performance on the Plinth by our school music teachers. It's not often you get to hear professional musicians who are also your teachers perform as a band! So impressive.
It was really inspiring and many children, particularly our new Year 7 flocked for the letters and sign up sheets.
The benefits for children who learn to play an instrument are vast and well publicised. If you wish your child to start music/vocal lessons. September is the time to sign up! If you have not already received the info from your child please contact Mr Bosworth hbosworth@humphry-davy.cornwall.sch.uk

Congratulations to our amazing 2024 Year 11 students!
We celebrated the magical moment of opening GCSE result envelopes and watching anxious expressions morph into smiles and joy and again this year!
Over a third of all students achieved a top grade 7-9 (old grade A/A*) in at least one subject and over a quarter of all grades in Biology, Chemistry, Health and Social Care, Music, Physics, Spanish and Further Maths were at grade 7 or above (old grade A/A*)!
There were some tremendous individual student achievements and special mention to Milly, Olive, Amelie, Martha, Tess and Helena who all achieved the equivalent of the old A*/A grades across the board in all their GCSEs! (That is 54 top grades between them!) Not wanting to be outdone by the girls, Jago, Jet, Cormack, Louis, Jack, Dylan and Frankie achieved the equivalent of 48 top grades. Just reward for hard work and positive attitudes!
We are proud of these wonderful young adults and the superb role models they have become for our younger students and the wider Penzance community.
Our sincere thanks to the dedicated and experienced team of staff here at HDS who make it all possible and to parents and carers who have every right to be proud of their children. Thank you for your support!
We wish all our students ‘Good Luck!’ and continued success as they move on to the next stage of their education and careers.
WELL DONE CLASS OF 2024!
