Our Christmas tree is HUGE this year! When it arrived in reception last week, we couldn’t believe our eyes. Students and staff jumped straight in to decorate it (it definitely took a team!) and just like that, Christmas had officially arrived at HDS.
We love this time of year when the tree is up — it brings so much festive cheer and is impossible to walk past without commenting on its beauty and gorgeous smell. This year’s tree comes with a side of “WOW! Just look how big it is!”
Thank you to Mrs Berryman for the tree donation again this year, it is greatly appreciated by everyone here at HDS and all our visitors!

🥈 2nd Place - Tevi – Imaginative and bursting with colour and decoration.
🥉 3rd Place - Kemeneth – Charming, creative, and full of teamwork.
Huge congratulations to our winners, and a massive well done to everyone who joined in! It was fantastic watching your little houses take shape. Your hard work and festive spirit truly made this year’s competition the sweetest one yet!

On Saturday, our Music Scholars hit the road to spread Christmas cheer across West Cornwall!
They stopped at Bolitho Care Home, the Carbis Bay Beach Christmas Fair, and Nancledra Primary School Christmas Fair, entertaining everyone in their Santa hats with a joyful repertoire of festive classics.
We loved being out in the community, spreading some festive cheer this winter season — and we can’t wait to share more at our Christmas Concert on Monday 15th December. Don’t miss it!

A small group of students are currently visiting London! They arrived safely at around 3 pm on Tuesday afternoon before heading straight out for dinner and a walk to the theatre via Buckingham Palace - where they even caught a glimpse of a royal visitor leaving just as they arrived!
On their second day, they visited Parliament for a guided tour led by HDS alumnus Nathan Glover, enjoyed a cruise along the River Thames, and explored the Science Museum, before wrapping up the day by watching the musical Back to the Future!
To round the trip off, they will be visiting Neasden Temple today before travelling back home to Cornwall. We look forward to hearing about all their adventures in the big city!

This November, our teachers took on a very important (and sometimes itchy) challenge. Growing their best moustaches in support of Movember — the global campaign raising awareness for men’s health, including mental health, suicide prevention, and prostate and testicular cancer.
We’ve been impressed by the range of styles that appeared across the month, from subtle starter ’staches to impressively bold creations. Their commitment to the cause, and to the upper-lip spotlight, was fantastic to see.
While the moustaches will certainly be missed, we know a few teachers were more than ready for the big shave on Sunday!
A big well done to everyone who took part and helped shine a light on such an important cause.

We’re excited to announce the return of our HDS Christmas Card Competition! Last year’s event was a massive success, showcasing the incredible creativity and talent of our students. This year, we have seen equally as brilliant festive flair, imaginative designs, and artistic brilliance.
Keep an eye on our social media channels — we’ll be announcing the winners each day, sharing their fantastic designs and celebrating their hard work. Well done to all students who entered and have, in turn, earnt those all important House Points!
Last years winning Christmas card (pictured below) is available to purchase from Reception and all proceeds from card sales will be donated to charity, helping us spread a little more joy this festive season.

The Year 9 and 10 cricket team demonstrated some fantastic skills during the Penwith Indoor Cricket Tournament. They showed excellent teamwork, with each player making a significant contribution to their success. There was some brilliant batting, with several HDS students retiring, and plenty of stumps flying as they bowled out their opponents. The fielding was equally impressive, featuring sharp run-outs and calm, confident catches.
A special mention goes to Finn S, who took his first wicket in his first cricket tournament!
The boys will now take part in the Cornwall Finals at Truro College in March. Well done!

Five students, along with their horses, competed in the Cornwall Schools’ Show Jumping Competition on Sunday. Competing in the 60–65 cm and 70–75 cm classes, it was fantastic to see each horse and rider pair giving their all over every jump. You never know what challenges you may face in this exhilarating sport, and it was great to see our students taking on their courses with confidence and determination. Well done to our wonderful riders and to their lovely horses!

This week, the Morrab Gardeners’ House gang have fully embraced the outdoors. Following a bracing well-being session in the gardens, the students continued to make fantastic animations using puppets and collage which will be shown in February. We are really looking forward to seeing their final outcome. It is sure to be a true celebration of all the wonderful memories that Morrab Gardens and the town of Penzance hold. Thank you to the Penzance Community Hub and to The Gardeners’ House for including us in this fabulous community project.
