After months of rehearsals, HDS was proud to bring Bugsy Malone to the stage at The Ritz, Penzance, just before half term.
What began as early script readings and tentative dance steps gradually transformed into a confident, energetic production that truly showcased the talent and commitment of our students. We were thrilled to share a special matinee with local primary pupils, followed by two fantastic evening shows. All met with huge applause!
A big shout out to our incredible live band of students, staff and alumni who brought the music to life and to everyone backstage who made the magic happen.
We are so proud of every single performer. What a show! We can’t wait to see what next year brings!

The Year 10 football team were in action just before half term in what proved to be a very close and exciting match. Both sides produced some excellent attacking play throughout. As the game played on, the team’s persistence and determination began to show. Their continued pressure eventually paid off, with two well-worked goals scored late in the match to secure a well-deserved victory.
It was a strong performance, marked by teamwork, resilience, and a willingness to keep pushing until the final whistle. Well done to all involved, it was an impressive display.

When this happens, it's usually because the owner only shared it with a small group of people, changed who can see it, or it's been deleted.

HDS secured their place in the next round of the Year 9 football cup with a strong 5–2 victory.
The opposition took an early lead, but HDS responded superbly, showing resilience, strong defending and effective direct football. This approach paid off as three goals before half-time gave HDS a deserved 3–1 lead at the break.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with HDS continuing to apply pressure. A well-struck long-range effort and a confidently taken free kick extended the lead to 5–1. The boys were not shaken by a late consolation goal from the opposition, remaining organised to see the game out.
A solid team performance ensured a 5–2 win and progression to the next round of the cup. What a fantastic game!

The Year 7 boys’ football team played in a very spirited 2–2 draw. They went into half-time 1–0 down but started the second half strongly, with a fantastic strike from team captain Sam. The team played some great football on a tough surface and worked together brilliantly. Well done!

The Year 7 girls’ hockey team delivered a strong and determined performance at their recent tournament, finishing with three wins, one draw, and three losses. The team showed great resilience and teamwork throughout the matches. Special mention goes to Florence, who led superbly as captain, and Chelsea, whose consistent and reliable defending played a key role in the team’s performance. Well done to all involved for their commitment and effort.

A huge WELL DONE to all of the cricket teams who have represented HDS in the recent Indoor Cricket Tournaments! You have competed brilliantly, and we couldn’t be prouder of the results you’ve achieved.
Every single one of you threw yourselves into the sport, and the team spirit on display was outstanding. At HDS, we’re all about ‘getting involved’ and you absolutely delivered! Whether this was a brand-new sport or you were back for another season as a dedicated team member, your commitment and enthusiasm shone through.
Special shout-outs to our Year 8 and U15 teams for returning for another competitive season, and a massive congratulations to both the Year 7 Girls and Year 7 Boys on making their first-ever finals appearance!

Last week we hosted our annual Careers Fair, and what a great day it was! It was brilliant to hear so many enthusiastic conversations full of inspiration and guidance.
Students had the opportunity to meet representatives from a wide range of career sectors, including engineering, hospitality, accounting, the armed forces, health, teaching, catering, dance, sport, performing arts, and more!
In addition, colleges, universities, sixth forms, and training providers were also in attendance, providing details about various qualifications and possible next steps - helping to inspire ideas and ambitions for the future.
We would like to say another big thank you to everyone who attended. This fantastic event wouldn’t be possible without you.

🌟 Big Club News! 🌟
Huge congratulations to our very own Rory Trathen on being selected for Cornwall U20s 👏🔥
A massive achievement and a moment to be proud of – all the hard work, graft, and commitment paying off. Rory continues to show exactly what the St Ives pathway is all about, and we couldn’t be happier to see him pulling on the black and gold at county level.
Best of luck with the campaign, Rory – the whole club is right behind you 💪
Up the Hakes! 🖤💛

Our Year 7 football team faced an exceptionally strong team on Thursday and despite a tough defeat, they showed real bravery and character throughout. From the first whistle, they worked hard to stay organised and kept chasing every ball, even as the pressure mounted. The match was made even more challenging by the rain, (making it difficult to control the ball or build attacks) but all players demonstrated resilience, teamwork and determination. On to the next fixture!

Last week, a group of budding artists and geographers visited the Jackson Foundation to explore the work of local artist Kurt Jackson and his series of paintings inspired by the geography and landscapes along the River Fal.
Our students had a fantastic time taking part in a workshop led by Rachel Lochhead in the gallery in St Just. They were encouraged to study Kurt Jackson’s paintings and consider how his work gives a voice to the nature and wildlife of the river, before creating some brilliant cardboard sculptures inspired by these ideas. Working in small groups, the students produced their impressive sculptures in under an hour — and they are now on display in our gallery!
A big thank you to Rachel and the Jackson Foundation for welcoming us into the gallery and providing such a valuable experience. We’re really looking forward to visiting again with more students next week.

Last Tuesday, our Year 8 Boys’ football team hosted the first round of the cup. The boys played brilliantly, staging a spirited comeback from being 2 – 1 down to secure a fantastic 4 – 2 win.
A huge well done to our Player of the match, Jack, who netted two goals, and Kirby who secured the other to seal the win.
This fantastic result sees the team progress to the next round. Best of luck boys! We’re all cheering you on!
