Students visited Serre Chevalier in France this year for our annual Ski trip and what a truly memorable experience it was!
Over the course of the week, students made fantastic progress in their skiing and snowboarding. Beginners showed remarkable determination, progressing from their first steps on the slopes to confidently navigating blue runs by the end of the trip, while our advanced group rose to the challenge of tackling black slopes with skill and enthusiasm.
Beyond the slopes, students enjoyed a brilliant range of activities. Our hotel provided not only excellent breakfasts to set everyone up for the day, but also lively evening entertainment, including Just Dance, karaoke and swimming. We also ventured out to Briançon for an evening visit and enjoyed a fun-filled bowling trip, adding even more variety to the experience.
One of the most impressive aspects of the trip was the attitude of our students. They were consistently inclusive, supportive, and encouraging of one another, creating a positive and welcoming environment throughout. It was also fantastic to see them building friendships with students from other schools staying at the hotel.
A huge thank you goes to all the students for their enthusiasm and behaviour, to parents for their support, to staff for their dedication and to Elemental for organising such a smooth and enjoyable trip. It was a wonderful experience that will be remembered for years to come.

Our Year 10 students had a fantastic week just before Easter, completing their work experience placements.
Spending four days with local employers, they gained valuable insight into the world beyond the classroom and what working life can look like. This year’s placements were wonderfully varied, from veterinary practices and the railway to the postal service and local cafés.
Feedback from employers has been extremely positive and we are incredibly proud of how our students have represented the school. Many have even surprised themselves with how confidently they adapted their skills to new environments; with some students even receiving job offers!
Well done Year 10 and a big thank you to all the employers who have supported our students with their placements.

When this happens, it's usually because the owner only shared it with a small group of people, changed who can see it, or it's been deleted.

Heading further north than ever before, our Music Scholars set their sights on Liverpool - City of Culture and birthplace of The Beatles.
Students visited the world-famous ‘Cavern Club’, famed as one of the venues where The Beatles first rose to fame. They soaked up the spirit of Liverpool, surrounded by walls adorned with signed guitars from artists such as B.B. King and Brian May. The group also enjoyed live music from one of the Cavern Club’s house acts, performing a mix of classic Beatles tunes and other 1960s hits.
The following morning was spent at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA), where students experienced what it is like to study at one of the UK’s leading music schools. Founded in 1996 by Paul McCartney, (who still regularly visits and even offers one to one songwriting workshops!) LIPA offers incredible opportunities for aspiring musicians. Our students took part in a songwriting workshop led by former students Mari and Joseph, creating and performing their own pop songs. The results were fantastic, with some truly catchy tunes. We’re sure Sir Paul will be knocking on our door any day now!
After LIPA, it was back onto the minibus as the group headed to their second northern city, Manchester. Following dinner and a spot of shopping, they enjoyed an evening watching Matilda the musical at the Palace Theatre. The students were blown away by the full-scale production, from the mesmerising set design to the incredibly talented young cast.
Another brilliant opportunity for our Music Scholars to explore their musical futures. Bring on the summer term, with even more opportunities to develop and showcase their talents!

Year 7 and 8 students recently visited the Gardeners' House in Morrab Gardens for an Art, Design & Literacy workshop, ‘Poems for Penzance’.
Hosted by Ben from ‘Sustainable Penzance’, the day began with a sunny tour of the gardens before students explored different styles of poetry, the importance of using the five senses to bring writing to life and how poems don’t have to rhyme. Ben shared a range of works, including those by Benjamin Zephaniah, Simon Armitage, Wendy Cope and even our very own Sir Humphry Davy (did you know he wrote poetry!).
Inspired by what they had learned, students then put pen to paper to create their own poems. They explored a range of forms, including acrostic, haiku, shape and limerick poems, often with an environmental theme. Their creativity and imagination shone through and many confidently shared their work with the group.
Ben then introduced a beautiful historic book of illustrated poetry from the Gardeners' House archive, which inspired students to illustrate their own poems. The final pieces will be compiled into a specially bound book to be kept in the Gardeners' House archive.
Well done to all the students who attended. It was wonderful to see your creativity blossom throughout the day. We loved your work!

Our U12 boys recently competed in the county hockey tournament and produced a fantastic set of performances across the day. The team started strongly with an impressive 5–0 victory, followed by further wins of 3–0, 4–0 and 4–0, showing excellent teamwork, organisation and attacking play. Their only defeat came in a narrow 1–0 loss, but the team responded brilliantly and continued to compete with great determination. Going into the final game, the boys knew that a win would secure qualification for the regional finals. In a tightly contested match, they battled hard and produced another strong performance, but were unfortunately held to a 1–1 draw which meant they narrowly missed out on qualification. Despite this, the team were fantastic throughout the entire tournament, demonstrating great skill, effort and sportsmanship. They should be extremely proud of the way they represented the school all day. Well done!

Our Mock Trial Team performed spectacularly at the local heats on Friday.
Both prosecution and defence teams worked hard to present their cases at Truro Magistrates’ Court in front of local magistrates and court officials. The competition helps develop skills in public speaking, understanding of the law and debating. Perfect preparation for future lawyers and magistrates.
After a series of very tense hearings, the competition concluded with an outstanding victory for the HDS team! Huge congratulations to everyone involved, you did a superb job! Here’s to the regional finals next term!

Well done to all the players involved.
