Music Scholars Visit Liverpool

Posted on: 01/04/2026
Heading further north than ever before, our Music Scholars set their sights on Liverpool - City of Culture and birthplace of The Beatles.

Students visited the world-famous ‘Cavern Club’, famed as one of the venues where The Beatles first rose to fame. They soaked up the spirit of Liverpool, surrounded by walls adorned with signed guitars from artists such as B.B. King and Brian May. The group also enjoyed live music from one of the Cavern Club’s house acts, performing a mix of classic Beatles tunes and other 1960s hits.

The following morning was spent at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA), where students experienced what it is like to study at one of the UK’s leading music schools. Founded in 1996 by Paul McCartney, (who still regularly visits and even offers one to one songwriting workshops!) LIPA offers incredible opportunities for aspiring musicians. Our students took part in a songwriting workshop led by former students Mari and Joseph, creating and performing their own pop songs. The results were fantastic, with some truly catchy tunes.  We’re sure Sir Paul will be knocking on our door any day now!

After LIPA, it was back onto the minibus as the group headed to their second northern city, Manchester. Following dinner and a spot of shopping, they enjoyed an evening watching Matilda the musical at the Palace Theatre. The students were blown away by the full-scale production, from the mesmerising set design to the incredibly talented young cast.

Another brilliant opportunity for our Music Scholars to explore their musical futures. Bring on the summer term, with even more opportunities to develop and showcase their talents!
