Rona Sailing Project
Posted on: 17/07/2025Nine Year 10 students got to experience the adventure of a lifetime this term. They boarded an impressive sailing yacht, the Donnald Searl and spent the whole week on board learning sailing skills and techniques; one student even got hoisted up the mast to fix twisted ropes!
The students cooked and slept on board, getting a real taste of the sailing life. The night sail in particular was a true highlight, with students working in shifts to sail through the night! They stopped at several places on the way, such as Great Yarmouth and Weymouth, to take in the sights.
The skipper was so proud of all his young crew, who spent the week showing incredible resilience and team work skills. All students were awarded with the ‘Scotts Award’ at the end of the trip. The award is given to participants who demonstrate exceptional effort, contribution, or improvement during their voyage with the Rona Sailing Project. It also means our students have been invited back to take part in a second voyage if they choose.
What an incredible opportunity for this group of students and what a fantastic achievement. We loved watching your confidence grow over the week, well done.
