Year 8 Compete for the County Cup

Posted on: 16/03/2022
Our Year 8 football team continued their run in this year's county cup, following up their away victory against Penair with an impressive 3-0 win away to Camborne. The game started brightly as both teams battled hard in the monsoon-like conditions, but it was HDS who had the ball in the back of the net early into the first half. After some fine pressing from Liam, who forced a weak clearance from the Camborne defender. The clearance fell to Tonsley on the edge of the box, after a fine turn and swivel Tonsley unleashed an unstoppable left-foot shot into the far corner of the net - 1-0 HDS!

HDS started the second half brightly. Kyle moved into midfield from defence which settled the whole team down. Midway through the second half, HDS were racking up the corner kicks, Alfie putting some menacing balls into the box. It was only a matter of time until one of these corners resulted in a goal, and it was Liam who provided a real striker's finish. The HDS defence then reaffirmed their defensive capabilities and it was the brilliant Kyle who scored the final goal… and what a goal it was. He beat three Camborne defenders with ease, before slotting past the keeper into the bottom corner. The full-time whistle was blown, and our passage to the county cup final was secured!

The whole team put in an outstanding performance and the players were a credit to themselves and the school. We are thoroughly looking forward to visiting Truro school for the quarter-finals!
