Humphry Davy School 24 Mar 2023 Our fantastic Music Scholars headed to Birmingham to visit the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire where they enjoyed a performance from the Birmingham City Symphony Orchestra at the majestic Birmingham Symphony Hall. Students were given the opportunity to talk with recently graduated RBC alumni and were shown what university and working life as a musician is all about.

Humphry Davy School 16 Mar 2023 Kickstarting our Science Week, Year 9 students were treated to a visit to Spaceport Cornwall. Arriving at the Integration Facility at the Aerohub Newquay, students were firstly taken to the decontamination room where they were shown how the satellite is integrated into the rocket. Following this, they were guided to the hanger where the rocket is housed. An informative talk from one of the staff gave students an insight into how the facility works, and the growing opportunities within this sector in Cornwall and beyond. What an inspiring day!

Humphry Davy School 16 Mar 2023 Tassomai - The Learning Programme, are resuming their live lessons from Wednesday 22nd March. The zoom based tuition sessions are free to attend for all students! What a great way for our year 10 and 11 students to revise!

Humphry Davy School 7 Mar 2023 On Friday our music students took part in the annual St Piran’s Day parade in Penzance. The students paraded down the streets of our lovely little town with black and white rosettes proudly pinned onto their school uniform. We had a great day celebrating this Cornish tradition with our local community. We hope you all had a fantastic St Piran’s Day on Sunday and celebrated in a truly Cornish way!

Humphry Davy School 3 Mar 2023 We celebrated World Book Day today at HDS. World Book Day is always a fun day in school and today was no exception. With ‘Don’t judge a book by its cover’ activities in the library and the option to dress up as your favourite literary character we really did have a blast! It was brilliant seeing all the fantastic costumes making their way around the school site at lunchtime, here are some photos of just a few!

Humphry Davy School 3 Mar 2023 We have been very fortunate to have been able to work with the Cornwall-based charity, Our Only World, to design and install a new water refill station at HDS. Our Only World is a small, Cornwall-based charity on a mission to help restore the oceans with effective solutions that can be rolled out across the County and beyond. They have produced the UK’s first water refill station design that is made from old plastic fishing nets. These refill stations help eliminate the use of single use plastic water bottles that end up polluting our oceans. Located near to our playing fields and directly next to our tennis courts, our new dolphin shaped water refill station not only looks great, it enables both our students and our community users to conveniently refill their water bottles. Humphry Davy School 2 Mar 2023 Huge congratulations to our wonderful Mr Mitchell on his 70th birthday today. Mr Mitchell has worked with the school for over 50 years and keeps our grounds looking amazing! Happy Birthday!

Humphry Davy School 28 Feb 2023 We hosted another wonderful careers event at HDS last week. Year 8 students experienced a ‘Careers Networking’ event where they had the chance to meet 22 different employers from many different career sectors. There was representatives from Space, Hospitality, Tourism, Engineering, Renewable Energy, Optometry, Sport, Police, Fire Brigade, Finance, Business, Social Work, NHS, Physiotherapy, Management, Re-cycling Plastic/Save the Planet, Catering, Photography, Royal Navy , Merchant Navy, Careers in the Marine sector, Careers in Aviation, software development/design, digital, media and even someone who works in the Metaverse! The feedback from the students was brilliant, with students commenting: “I wish we had more time", "This has helped me so much to get an idea of the different jobs that I could do in the future", "Could we do this again so that we could visit the people we didn't get to talk to", "I understand why we do the different subjects at school now", "Wow loved it!". Thank you to everyone who attended, we know this has helped to broader our students horizons, raise aspirations and give reliable first-hand information about the routes into different careers.

Humphry Davy School 21 Feb 2023 We are looking to appoint a team of enthusiastic and reliable Exam Invigilators. This is an exciting ‘first step’ opportunity to experience school-based work. We have an active commitment to staff development, and there may be opportunities to provide cover in other support roles subject to the applicant’s suitability.
