Year 7 Learn First Aid

Posted on: 12/05/2019

Here at HDS we are passionate about providing all of our students with life support training sessions. We believe that it is very important to understand the risks of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA), which kills 2,000 people weekly in the UK, as many as 270 of these being children at school.

We are lucky to have our very own qualified First Aid Trainer, Mr Brown, who is able to pass on his skills and knowledge to all HDS Students and Staff!

Mr Brown has had a very busy start to 2019 and has taught all our Year 7s how to deliver CPR and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) confidently. An AED is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the life threatening cardiac arrhythmias of ventricular fibrillation and pulseless ventricular tachycardia. We are very lucky to have two of these incredible lifesaving devices in school!

The students fully engaged themselves within the lessons, understanding the importance of the training. They were all keen to learn these life saving techniques, aware that one day they could possibly take the skills they have acquired and put them to use.
