Humphry Davy School 9 Jun 2026 A group of student students enjoyed a fantastic day at the Royal Cornwall Show on Friday 5th June. Throughout the day, students fully immersed themselves in all that the show had to offer, from thrilling horse show jumping displays to impressive agricultural machinery and everything in between. The trip provided a wonderful opportunity to experience one of Cornwall’s most celebrated events, showcasing the very best of rural life, agriculture and local culture. Thankfully, the weather was kind to us, with more sunshine than showers, making for a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable day for all involved.

Humphry Davy School 8 Jun 2026 We would like to say a big thank you to the Year 8 student who brought in his great-grandfather’s gas mask for us to see. Issued in 1937 and used during World War II, it was fascinating to see such an interesting artefact. It gave students a real connection to the past and helped bring our learning to life. Thank you!

Humphry Davy School 5 Jun 2026 Our Year 10 Catering students are currently developing their fresh pasta making skills, learning how to use pasta machines and create traditional Corteccia-shaped pasta. Their pasta has been paired with a delicious Cacio e Pepe sauce and this week they took their skills a step further by incorporating fresh herbs into the flour before making the pasta. The results were truly bellissimo!

Humphry Davy School 20 May 2026 Students achieved outstanding success at the final round of the Mock Trial competitions on Saturday, where they competed against strong opponents from secondary schools across the South West. Our team took part in two sessions during the day, acting as the defence in the first case and the prosecution in the second. The students represented the school brilliantly, conducting themselves with maturity, politeness and determination throughout the competition. Their persuasive performances and teamwork led to success in both rounds, resulting in HDS being crowned overall winners of the South West region! What an incredible achievement! The day was one to remember and everyone involved should be extremely proud of themselves. Congratulations!

Humphry Davy School 18 May 2026 Our Year 8 Girls' Cricket team travelled to Roche Cricket Club to take part in the softball County tournament last week. All students played fantastically well, contributing runs, catches and wickets for the team. Their brilliant attitude throughout the day was admirable and they certainly gave their best. Finishing 5th overall out of 13 was a fantastic achievement. Well done Girls!

Humphry Davy School 13 May 2026 Students from Years 7–10 competed in the Track and Field Athletics Cup, where they represented HDS in multiple events. With fairly wet conditions adding an extra challenge to the morning, our junior boys competed in the track events while the intermediate boys took part in the field events. In the afternoon, the groups swapped events and the weather changed as well, making it much more enjoyable for everyone. It was a great day for all the boys to compete against students from secondary schools across Cornwall, with a couple of PBs achieved and great effort and determination shown throughout the day. Well done to everyone who took part.

Humphry Davy School 11 May 2026 Well done to Year 11 student Riley on his rugby success during the Easter holidays! Riley represented the Exeter Chiefs Under 16 team at Warwick University as part of the National Warwick Rugby Festival. What a fantastic experience. He also plays locally for Penryn, where he and his team won the Under 16 Cornwall Rugby League title. The team were also triumphant in the Under 16 Cornwall Cup for club rugby. These are incredible sporting achievements and you should be very proud. Huge congratulations Riley and good luck with your future in rugby. We look forward to following your progress!

Humphry Davy School 4 May 2026 Italy 2026 Yesterday, students took part in a wonderful hands-on experience with a traditional Italian pizza chef. They learned authentic techniques before creating their own pizzas from scratch – a definite highlight and a great way to immerse themselves in local culture (and cuisine!). 🍕 Today, they packed up and travelled to Peschiera del Garda, where the group enjoyed a relaxed final day together. Students spent time browsing the local market, picking up souvenirs and gifts to bring home. 🎁 They then had lunch by the lake, making the most of the beautiful surroundings, before everyone had the chance to dip their toes in Lake Garda one last time – a lovely and memorable way to round off the trip. Now for the long journey home…✈️

Humphry Davy School 3 May 2026 Italy Trip 2026 Today the HDS Italy group enjoyed a wonderful day at Lake Garda, visiting the beautiful town of Sirmione ❤️ The students had the opportunity to swim in the lake, making the most of the warm weather and scenic surroundings. Afterwards, they enjoyed lunch by the shore, taking in the stunning views of the lake.⛵️ They then spent some time exploring the local shops in Sirmione, where students were able to look around and pick up souvenirs. Of course, no visit would be complete without a treat - everyone enjoyed some delicious ice cream before heading back.🍦🇮🇹

Humphry Davy School 2 May 2026 Italy 2026 Living that Venetian dream! 🌊✨ From scenic water taxi rides to crossing iconic bridges (just a few of the 417 to choose from!). The HDS Italy trip has once more packed so much into one day. The students loved watching the gondolas and discovering the charm of Venice’s small, hidden streets. 🛶🚶‍♂️🇮🇹

Humphry Davy School 1 May 2026 What an amazing day for our Italy trip, who have been exploring the stunning city of Verona! They kicked things off with an engaging tour through its picturesque streets, followed by a visit to the impressive Verona Arena, a 1st-century Roman amphitheatre, and rounded it all off at the iconic ‘Juliet’s Balcony’ where our students placed their very own HDS ‘love lock’. All students are happy, well and enjoying the sunshine!

Humphry Davy School 29 Apr 2026 Last Thursday, HDS students took part in the Penwith Schools Athletics Competition held at Carn Brea track. All competitors performed exceptionally well and showed great determination throughout the event. Despite a very strong headwind on the home straight for the track athletes, the team delivered outstanding performances and returned with an impressive haul of gold, silver, and bronze medals. We are incredibly proud of the effort and teamwork shown by everyone involved.

Humphry Davy School 24 Apr 2026 Over the Easter break we hosted 60 children at our Time2Move holiday programme. Lasting 3 days, and with activities including table tennis, laser tag, nerf guns, dodgeball, karaoke, gymnastics, football, kin ball and dancing, there was certainly something for everyone to get involved in. Thank you to everyone who helped with the delivery of the programme, and thank you to everyone who attended…you were brilliant! We’re looking forward to hosting our next holiday programme in the Summer. Watch this space.
