Pearl of Africa Children's Choir Visit HDS

Posted on: 08/11/2019

Humphry Davy School were delighted to welcome singers, dancers and drummers from the Pearl of Africa Children’s Choir on 8th November. HDS invited pupils from local primary schools who, along with HDS students, took part in workshops all morning. Mrs Stuteley, Head of Creative Arts, shared “It was great to see the choir’s energy, passion and enthusiasm inspire our students; the atmosphere they created was amazing!”

Students and their families were invited to return in the evening for a fantastic concert held on the school’s stage. The choir’s amazing costumes filled the space with wonderful colour and their powerful voices echoed around the school grounds as they performed their traditional Ugandan music. HDS students also performed an African Drumming piece for the visitors. Many of the audience had a chance to get a head start on their Christmas shopping by purchasing traditional African arts and crafts created by the choir members. The proceeds of the sales, along with the retiring collection, ensured that Humphry Davy was able to contribute to the Molly and Paul Foundation – a group of orphanages and support centres for children in Uganda.

It was a truly incredible day; one that will not be forgotten.
