The Gifts Trees Give

Posted on: 26/05/2022

Taking part in a competition run by ‘Love Trees Cornwall’, our students have been busy exploring ‘The Gifts Trees Give’.

At HDS we are blessed with some amazing outside spaces in which to learn.  Our school grounds, packed with flora and fauna, were a great place for our students to turn to for inspiration for their competition entry.

Using The Woodland Trust’s ‘Tree ID’ app, students have explored the school site, finding out interesting facts about the trees around them.

In English lessons, students wrote about natural growth, and used imagery to voice their thoughts and feelings about trees.  Outside of the classroom, students took bark and leaf rubbings, built shelters, and explored the wildlife the trees support.

Growing our own saplings from seed was also great fun…allowing students to capture a time lapse of the remarkable growth that can
emerge from one small pip!

Pulling all of their experiences together, our students have created a superb short video
which has now been entered into the competition.

Check out our website to see more….and fingers crossed for the competition!

Well done everyone!
