The Humphry Davy School Interact Club is a group of young people in whom the school has immense pride.

Working in partnership with the Rotary Club of Mounts Bay, they have raised considerable funds for different causes since their beginning in 2014. All of the students give freely of their time and expertise in order to run the club. Once described as a ‘Rotary Club for Young People’, the Interact Club have firmly embraced the Rotary motto of 'Service above Self' and they spend a lot of time arranging fundraising events in order to benefit the local, national, and international, community.

Their work is based on that of the International Prefects (2011 – 2014) who built up relationships with schools around the world. They sponsored two students at our partner school in Abuja in Nigeria as well as working with our partner school in Brittany – Lycee le Nivot in Loperec – to raise £4000 to build and equip two science laboratories at our partner school in Kisoro in Uganda – the Vision School. Sir Humphry Davy would have been very proud!

Each year, the group chooses a local and an international charity for whom they wish to work. In just their first year they raised around £1500 for Penhaligan’s friends and ACE (Action, Conservation, Education) which provided books and stationary equipment for primary schools in Kisoro, Uganda.

A further £1000 was raised for Medicin Sans Frontiers, having been moved by their work with those fleeing from Syria, as well as a  £1000 to Children's Hospice South West

The group organise and participate in a range of activities to raise money for their chosen causes. Each year they hold an Interact Day where Humphry Davy students are asked to dig deep in order to wear non-uniform and to take part in a range of events - these range from cake sales to sponging a selection of teachers.

The group also support local events such as the Penzance Rotary Club’s annual fireworks display and the Rotary Club Ramble every September.

Interacters like to travel and recently they have been to spend a few days at our partner school in Brittany where they improved their French and worked on the farm as well as meeting like-minded students from a different country.  Plans are currently being drawn up to start an associated Interact Group at this school.
