HDI

Humphry Davy Interactive (HDI) was formed in 2017. This group and their work are the cause of much excitement.

Humphry Davy School has a recent tradition of being outward looking and striving to work with different cultures within our global community. Out International Prefect Team (2011-14) started work with our partners in France and Germany, before creating links with schools in Nigeria and Uganda. Their work was taken up by the Interact Group who worked closely with the Rotay Club of Mounts Bay leading to them being awarded the Best Interact Project award in February 2018! The groups visit to Uganda, where they spent three weeks teaching at the Vision School, was recognised as the best Interact project in the whole of GB and Ireland, what an achievement!

Again maintaining our close links with the Rotary Club, and indeed sharing many of their values, our HDI group will follow the Rotary motto of 'Service above Self'. Rotary Clubs give up hours of their free time and expertise to arrange fund raising events for local, national and international causes.

The group (Year 7 and 8 students) follow a formal meeting structure and action planning process and, like their Interact Group predecessors, they choose their own charities each year and arrange events and projects to support these causes. They also visit primary schools and give information to students in Key Stage Two and are currently working collaboratively with four of our feeder schools.

Following the Interact Groups visit to Kisoro, Uganda, HDI members have committed to building a girls' room at two schools in Uganda costing £8000 in total and fund raising is well underway to reach this target. A girls' room contains a bed, sanitary products for the girls, a washroom and shower, some pain relief, but most importantly a member of staff based in this room who is understanding and sympathetic and can challenge the attitudes outlined above.
