Initial Teacher Training

At Humphry Davy School we want to support the development of our teachers but also support and train those looking to become teachers.

If you are interested in training to become a teacher then you can contact our Professional Tutor, Rebecca Stuteley on

We have partnerships with the following providers with different routes into teaching:

Cornwall School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT)
SCITT has been awarded “Outstanding” status by Ofsted, recognising the highest quality of teaching training provision. A distinctive feature of this school-led training is that the course is focused on carefully staged and appropriately supervised practical classroom experience within at least two partner institutions, which is further supported by academic study sessions focusing on extending professional skills and knowledge. These take place at our base at Truro College, with subject-specific sessions held at a number of our partner schools.

Exeter University
Exeter PGCE was awarded Outstanding by OFSTED in 2011. The Secondary PGCE is offered and is a one year course. The links with the university are strong and you are required to spend the majority of the first term at the university developing your knowledge of teaching and learning before starting your first placement in the January.

Peninsula Teacher Training Cornwall (PTTC)
Offering SCITT, a one year programme based within schools in Cornwall. PTTC is working in partnership with Plymouth University to enable trainees to gain their PGCE through face to face training with University Tutors in Cornwall. A large proportion of your course time will be spent on placement within Cornish schools, supported by teaching and learning, subject enhancement and professional studies sessions – also led from schools within Cornwall.
