- The Library
From Douglas Adams to Marcus Zusak, the Humphry Davy School library has over 5500 books in stock for students and staff to borrow. Take your pick from fact, fiction, graphic novels, poetry, and quick reads for readers who want a shorter text.
The library is also home to Careers. Here students can pick up a college prospectus or have a chat with the Careers Advisor about their plans for the future.
Encouraging a positive reading culture in and out of school is of paramount importance to us, and fittingly the library is home to several reading groups. This year our biggest are the Kernow Youth Book Award (KYBA) group and the Stan Lee Excelsior Award group. KYBA students read six specially selected books chosen by participating schools across Cornwall, before choosing their favourite and attending an exclusive award ceremony held at the Keay Theatre, St Austell . The Excelsior Award is a national project, with participants reading eight graphic novels of varying styles and discussing each one before an overall winner is chosen.
The library is also the perfect space for hosting literary events such as author visits, World Book Day activities and our Primary Literature Festival.
Students can check library stock availability, read or write reviews and more using the Eclipse Frog page. If there’s a book or series that students think the library really needs, they can suggest their selection to the librarian who reviews all requests throughout the year. Students play a practical role in the refreshment of library stock, and every year groups are taken to Waterstones in Truro and The Edge of the World Bookshop in Penzance to select new titles.
If you have any questions regarding the library then please contact the librarian at email@example.com.
