Head's Welcome

"Music can change the World"
- Beethoven.

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the World"
- Nelson Mandela.

Two of my favourite all time quotes and from world leaders that did indeed change the world! So what would you get if you combine the two; Music and Education combined to form a school that has music at its heart?

No wonder we are seeing today such significant improvements in standards of attainment, achievement, behaviour and aspiration.

Humphry Davy School has a long-standing well-deserved reputation for its caring approach and an ethos which encourages, supports and develops students of all abilities – from those with specific learning difficulties right through to the most Gifted and Talented. I believe that over the past seven years of my leadership, we have ensured the standard of care has never fallen, whilst the standard of achievement has risen significantly to the high levels seen today. I don’t believe the two are mutually exclusive; indeed my personal philosophy is that by focusing upon each and every individual’s needs to enable them to flourish, the climate for learning will be enhanced and the whole school community will grow.

Our membership of the Penwith Educational Trust (PET) increases our capacity to improve outcomes for all our learners working within the framework of our current School Vision that we produced in 2010 in consultation with parents and the local community. That resultant Vision statement encapsulates for me what our school is about and sets out the beliefs and values of both myself and the rest of our Governing Body. It has provided a clear direction for the school whilst reminding us of our core values when decision making. The contribution of the local community was very important to us all.

As a school, we are always interested in the views of our parents and the local community and as we undertake our review of the school vision taking us forward to 2020 I would welcome your contribution.  Using this link all stakeholders have the opportunity to contribute to our vision consultation.

The governing body and I remain committed to ensuring our school is a valued part of the Penzance community and continues to provide an educational standard of which we can all be proud.

Please take the time to read it through, especially if you are considering sending your child to the school as it captures our essence. Together I truly believe we can create the inspirational learning environment to enable our young people to flourish and become the leaders of tomorrow and I look forward to working with you.
