Humphry Davy School - A Community Music College

We are proud of our pioneering work in terms of offering a challenging and innovative musical curriculum. National institutions such as the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust have showcased Humphry Davy School as an example of good practice.

The school has strong working partnerships at all levels, and is proud to work with our local primary schools as well as schools throughout the country and around the world. The school has filmed an opera which was composed by our learners as part of a collaborative project with another Specialist Music College and we are working with the British Council and the Youth Sport Trust at an International level. Humphry Davy School is one of the leaders in the Hamlyn foundation's Musical Bridges project that looks at ways in which music can ease the transition between Key Stages Two and Three.

Learners throughout the school can take further lessons on a range of instruments or voice. Working in partnership with a local provider, the school offers individual or group lessons with a full quality assurance programme to ensure that progress is maximized.

The school offers a full programme of extra curricular opportunities including a male voice choir, a jazz band, chamber music groups for string and wind players, as well as a plethora of rock bands for musicians of all abilities, tastes and experience. There is also a specialist dance music zone for composers wishing to get us moving to the latest beats. All of this is supported through an extensive range of performance opportunities both in and outside school.

"The school is recognised as a centre of regional excellence for music . . ."
