Results Day 2017

Humphry Davy School Summer 2017 GCSE Results

‘Best Performing Year Group Ever?’

Humphry Davy School students, parents, staff and governors are celebrating the superb GCSE achievements of the 2017 cohort.

Music and Art join Triple Science subjects and Further Maths from 2016 as the highest performing subject areas with over 90% of students achieving grades A*-C. These are closely followed by results in Sport, Textiles, Resistant Materials and Catering.

With all the changes nationally - new GCSEs in English, English Literature and Maths and the introduction of the new 1-9 grading system - it is impossible to make direct comparisons across ‘whole school’ performance measures.

However, the quality of student outcomes just keeps getting better and better at Humphry Davy School.  Over 60% of students achieved at least one grade A*/A and 2017 students have broken previous records in a number of comparable subject areas.

In fact, over half of all subjects increased the percentage of students achieving A*-C grades when compared to 2016, which was acknowledged as the ‘Best Ever’ set of results in the history of the school!

These increases have been achieved even though there are a higher proportion of students starting from lower Key Stage 2 starting points in the 2017 cohort. Combined with the high percentage of students in English and Maths achieving their target grades, does this make the 2017 cohort the highest performing year group ever? We can never be sure, but we congratulate all our Year 11 students for attaining some outstanding results in the 2017 GCSEs. You can all be very proud of your achievements!

I am sure the students would like to join the governing body and myself in thanking all the staff for their hard work and support.  But it is the dedication and hard work of the students themselves that has earned them their achievements. As a community we are proud of them; hard work has reaped rewards once again.

Individual Student Successes

There were as ever a number of superb individual performances with students achieving the top grades across a range of subjects that we would like to recognize and celebrate. These include students who have achieved the elusive new top ‘Grade 9’ in the subjects of English and Maths which only the top two percent in the country will attain. However, to maintain the element of surprise when opening their results envelope we will only publish the names and outcomes on this website after all the results have been picked up.

Parents and carers have every right to be proud of their children and my thanks as Headteacher go to you all for your support over the years.

We would like to wish all our students ‘Good luck!’ and continued success as they move on to the next stage of their education and careers and hope they keep in touch with their on-going, amazing achievements.
